John Russ, M.D.

Dr. John S. Russ was born in Lake Charles , Louisiana but Columbus , Ohio , has been home to him for most of his life. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from The Ohio State University. Dr. Russ completed his medical training at The Ohio State University College of Medicine where he was an Alpha Omega Alpha medical honorary.

While in medical school he developed a passion for obstetrics and gynecology. He felt that this specialty allowed him to enjoy the best of medicine as well as perform surgery. More importantly he had the privilege of getting to know his patients and their families on a long-term basis.

In 1981 after completion of his Ob/Gyn residency at Ohio State , Dr. Russ went into solo practice in Gahanna , Ohio . In 1989, Dr. Russ and Dr. Michael Sprague combined their practices to create Northeast Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Dr. Russ is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a member of the Columbus Medical Association. He is a past Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Grant Medical Center and has been the Director of Ob/Gyn Education at Grant Medical Center since 1992. Dr. Russ enjoys teaching medical students and residents and has been the recipient of many teaching awards, the most prestigious being Community Teacher of the Year from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He views teaching as an extension of his career and a valuable way of giving back to his profession.

In the past two “Docs Rate Docs” surveys conducted by WBNS TV, Dr. Russ has been selected by his colleagues as one of the “Top five Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Central Ohio ”.

Dr. Russ has participated in the progression of technology in Ob/Gyn from ultrasound to laser surgery. Minimally invasive surgery has significantly decreased patient recovery time and has been a major part of his practice for the last twelve years.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Russ enjoys spending time with his family and friends, golfing and jogging. He feels that his family, his wife, and three daughters are what define him. He gives credit and thanks to his family and faith for the direction of his career.


Michael Sprague, M.D.

Dr. Michael S. Sprague was born in Clinton , Illinois . He received his Bachelor's degree in biology from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington , Illinois where he graduated with honors.   He attended medical school at St. Louis University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.  He was named to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honorary society and was named the outstanding student in the Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Ohio State University Hospitals. 

Dr. Sprague entered private practice in Columbus , Ohio in 1982, and joined with Dr. Russ to form Northeast Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 1989.  Dr. Sprague is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a member of the Columbus Ob/Gyn Society and the Columbus Medical Association.  He is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Ob/Gyn at The Ohio State University Hospitals. He is a Past Chairman of the Department of Ob/Gyn at Grant Medical Center .  He is currently the Director of Women's Health at Grant.

Dr. Sprague is an experienced obstetrician and an accomplished gynecologic surgeon performing routine and complex obstetric and gynecologic procedures.

Dr. Sprague and his wife Beth live in Worthington and have two children, Katie And Ryan.


Michael Parker, M.D.
Dr. Michael Parker is a native to the central Ohio area. He grew up in Delaware , Ohio just north of Columbus . After graduating from Hayes High School in 1981, Dr. Parker attended Kenyon College where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelors degree in Biology. In the fall of 1985, he enrolled at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, graduating with his doctorate degree in 1989. Dr. Parker then completed his residency training at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1993.

After residency, Dr. Parker joined Drs. Russ and Sprague at Northeast Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Gahanna , Ohio . He holds admitting privileges at Grant Medical Center , Mount Carmel East and St. Ann 's Hospital. At Grant Medical Center , Dr. Parker has served as the Chairman of the Performance Improvement Committee, Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a member of the Peer Review Committee. He also has an active role in the education of resident physicians in the Family Practice and Ob/Gyn programs.

Dr. Parker is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1995), a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a member of the Ohio State Medical Association and the Columbus Medical Association. He also has received additional training and certification as a Natural Family Planning medical consultant through The Pope Paul VI Institute for the Study of Human Reproduction in affiliation with Creighton University in Omaha , Nebraska .

In August, 2004, Dr. Parker made a decision based on his Catholic and Pro-life beliefs to change his practice to a Natural Family Planning Only practice (see "Letter to Patients"). This means that he does not prescribe or refer for contraceptive services such as oral contraceptives, Depo-Provera, IUD's, diaphragms or sterilizations. Instead, he prefers to work with his patients to help them gain a greater appreciation for their fertility, and to empower them to work cooperatively with their biologic rhythms, so that they can achieve or avoid pregnancy based on their desires. This knowledge can also be used to help solve common and sometimes complex gynecologic problems such as ovarian cysts, chronic discharges, infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, unusual bleeding and irregular cycles.

Dr. Parker's other practice interests include routine and high risk obstetrics, general gynecology, infertility, and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. He is an accomplished gynecologic surgeon performing routine and complex obstetric and gynecologic procedures and minimally invasive procedures.

Dr. Parker and his wife Teresa live with their six children in New Albany . They are active in Pro-Life auses and attend St. Matthew and St. Patrick Church. Dr. Parker is an active member of the Knights of Columbus. They enjoy spending time together as a family and with friends. Dr. Parker’s other hobbies include fishing, camping, and outdoor sports.


Elizabeth Sabol, M.D.
Dr. Elizabeth Sabol recently relocated to central Ohio from Charleston , South Carolina where she finished medical school and residency training at the Medical University of South Carolina. She joined Northeast Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 2004.

Dr. Sabol is an Ohio native who was born in Columbus and grew up in Ashtabula , Ohio . She received her bachelor’s degree from Ohio State in biochemistry and master’s degree from the Medical University of Ohio in experimental pathology. She is a junior fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

She lives with her husband David, her two-year-old daughter Lauren, her new son, Jack, and their golden retriever in the Dublin area.
